Safeguarding the Dignity of Every Human Person
Week of September 20, 2015
This year the bishops of the United States of America have invited us to reflect on the purpose and mission of what we do as catechists and teachers of the ways of faith. For the theme of the year they chose Safeguarding the Dignity of Every Human Person. This arises from the biblical teaching found in Genesis that all are made in God’s image and likeness. It reminds us that we the Baptized need to actively support and protect others from all sorts of harm, cherishing human life from the moment of conception to a natural death. We as a parish are called to recommit ourselves at the beginning of the catechetical year to see each child and each opportunity to share the faith as a gift from God. It is a year of grace; it is a time when we place our upcoming year in the hands of God. In turn, God places in our hands the opportunity to share His grace. We pray in this upcoming year for all of our catechists. We celebrate with them, ask God that they may be vessels of His grace, and pray that they may impact the lives of the children entrusted to their care with the love of God that surpasses all understanding.
May God’s grace lead us in this upcoming year.
