A Note From Father Eickhoff
May 7, 2023
As you are reading this bulletin article, I am likely on my way back to Oswego from hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail. Therefore, I am writing this article a couple of weeks ahead of publication so if something has happened in the world recently you will not read about it here. There are a couple of events that are happening at St. Anne Parish during the month of May that you should be aware of:
Sunday, May 14 is Mother’s Day and that makes this day an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our deep reverence for the Blessed Mother Mary, the Mother of God. At the beginning of each of the Sunday Masses we will hold a May Crowning of the statue of the Blessed Mother. The crowning of the statue of Mary recalls how Almighty God has crowned Mary herself as the Queen of Heaven and Earth and raised her to a position greater than any other created being. At the same time, we would be amiss here at St. Anne Parish if we did not honor our patron saint Anne, the mother of Mary, on this day.
The St. Anne Parish Council is seeking to add new members. Due to the disruptions caused by the response to Covid the Parish Council has not added new members in several years and many of its members have reached the end of their terms on the Council. In addition, the number of people on the Council has diminished due to members moving out of state.
The Parish Council is an important part of the structure of St. Anne Parish as it provides long term planning to the parish; feedback from parishioners concerning ongoing concerns; and gives advice to the pastor. There will be a discernment meeting on May 8 at 7pm during which current members of the Parish Council will be in attendance to meet with perspective members.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Stephen Eickhoff
Pastor
