A Note From Father Eickhoff

September 8, 2024

Usually I have two days (Monday and Tuesday) to prepare a bulletin article before it and the entire bulletin needs to be submitted for printing. These two days gives me time to consider the readings for the upcoming Sunday Mass and to prepare and write an article based on the readings or the prayers for the upcoming Mass. This week being a short work week due to the Labor Day holiday I am rushed for time so this bulletin article will highlight some of the upcoming events in the parish.

First, I would like to direct your attention to the Mass with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick that is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st at 11am here at St. Anne Church. Many people think of the Anointing of the Sick as something that is only done when a person is near death and for that reason many people delay seeking out this sacrament. It is true that the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is also known as Last Rites, and it should be sought out if someone is near death. However, this is not the only occasion for this sacrament. The Anointing of the Sick can be given to anyone who is currently suffering from an injury, or an acute or chronic illness whether or not the injury or sickness is likely mortal. I myself was anointed after I broke my arm and needed surgery to repair the break. The injury wasn’t life threatening, but it was serious, and it is just for such serious illnesses and injuries that God and His Church makes this sacrament available.

This Mass is open to anyone in need of the sacrament and those who are caring for them. There is no reservation or registration needed. A lunch will be provided in the parish hall after Mass.

Second, there are two “save the date” events that are coming up here at St. Anne Parish. On Friday, October 18th between 5.30pm and 7pm the RE office will sponsor the 2nd annual Trunk or Treat. Last year’s event was great fun with great participation from families both attending and decorating their cars for the event. If you would like to decorate your car for this year’s event, please contact the RE office.

The other “save the date” event is the annual parish pig roast to be held on Sunday, October 27th from 12pm to 3pm. Tickets will go on sale for this event in early October.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Stephen Eickhoff
