A Note From Father Eickhoff
August 11, 2024
You may have noticed that the signs in front of the schools in Oswego all say that classes will begin on August 15th. When I first noticed the signs that date was still several weeks in the future. Now, that date is fast approaching and by the day you are reading this bulletin article that date will be only a few days away. The days of summer always seem to speed by so quickly.
Since the new school year will soon start, I want to offer my best wishes and prayers for all the teachers and staff members of all the schools that the youth of St. Anne Parish attend. I also ask that the people of the parish pray for the students about to start the new school year that they may have a happy and successful year of learning.
In other news.
The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is on Thursday, August 15th. This is a Holy Day of Obligation this year. The phrase “holy day of obligation” means that Catholics who are able to come to church and attend Mass are expected to do so. A Holy Day of Obligation marks an event of great importance in our Catholic faith. In this case we are celebrating the assumption of Mary, the Mother of God, body and soul into heaven. Masses for the solemnity will be held at St. Anne Parish at 7am, 12pm (noon), and 7pm.
The St. Anne Annual Pig Roast is scheduled for Sunday, October 27th. Tickets will go on sale in September. Until the tickets go on sale you should mark your calendars for this parish favorite event. Finally, an update regarding the 2024 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal:
Goal Amount- $105,700
Amount Pledged – $116,483
Amount Paid- $ 99,262
St. Anne Parish is very close to reaching our goal amount. And I hope that the next time that I report to you about the CMAA I will be able to announce that we have indeed achieved our goal. As a reminder. Once the parish has reached its goal amount 70% of the money collected over the goal amount is returned to St. Anne Parish.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Stephen Eickhoff
Pastor
