King of Kings and Lord of Lords
November 25, 2018
The Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe is the conclusion of the liturgical year. It is the gift, the culmination of everything. The entire year leads up to this point. The entire year of experiences lead to this feast. All of our God moments that we experienced through the year, find meaning and are sanctified and dignified by Jesus who is King of the Universe. His name is to be held above every other name. His Kingdom will never end. At Christmas we followed that star and heard angels speak of a Savior being born. At Lent we went into the desert of our lives to find quiet and contemplate the mystery of forgiveness. Now at this time we gather with the community of faith to proclaim what we know by faith as being true. Jesus is the true King.
It is a kingdom of peace, it is a kingdom of humility, and it is a kingdom that breaks the chains of sin and death. What makes this kingdom incredible is that Jesus, even while on the cross, forgives the repentant thief. Jesus never refuses His love. His loyalty to us never fails. As the Son of God, He beckons us forth to be His royal family. He invites us to become participants of His Kingdom. He is not far off, but ever present. He does not leave us in the darkness, but brings us into the splendor of His own wondrous and glorious light.
He is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. Come let us adore Him.
